book club dreams.

I recently mentioned to two of my college girlfriends that I was interested in starting an online book club. I have so many friends that love reading just as much as I do but we are spread out across the country and have busy or conflicting schedules anyway. Not only were my friends super into the idea, but one suggested that we pick a book now to discuss for our upcoming girls weekend in Colorado at the beginning of June.

We picked a book that is a highly inappropriate blush-worthy "romance" novel that has recently somehow taken the nation by a storm (the females of the nation, that is). I wouldn't exactly say that 50 Shades of Grey is the type of book I'd like to be using for a book club (it's basically said to be X-rated), but it is perfect fodder for our no-boys-allowed weekend up in the Rockies, so it's a start.

What I really want to do, though, is open up this book club to anybody who wants in. I know so many of you who have swapped book recommendations with me or love discussing the last great book you read. If you're anything like me, sometimes you just want to analyze a book with another person rather than experiencing it alone.

We could take turns picking the book for the group and would take a month or a month and a half to read each book, discussing the book through an online forum along the way. It would be no-strings attached - if you're not interested in the book of the month, then you just don't join the discussion until the next book gets started. If you're busy and fall behind in reading the book, then you don't have to worry about missing a book club meeting - you just log on when you're caught up and ready to chat or ask questions.

And we will pick much, much, much better books than 50 Shades of Grey (although you're welcome to hop on that bandwagon, if you want!)

The only downfall of all this? There will be no wining and dining, one of the best parts of a book club gathering! Or perhaps there will still be wining and dining but it will happen while we are alone in front of our computers. Which I'm not necessarily against.

So anyway, who wants in?
